I am sure that Susan Boyle fans around the world are eager to know how Susan did her first performance in Japan. Did Susan succeed her first performance in Japan on the New Year’s Eve?
The answer is simple. “Yes, she did”.
Susan Boyle showed up on the screen around 21pm in Japan time, which is the golden time for the TV stations because everyone from young to elderly can see it in its time.
As I mentioned in my previous article, Susan seemed to be nervous at first, but a little accident, which Susan cannot understand what a Japanese actor said in English and the audience thought that this actor’s English is too bad to make himself understood, made Susan more relaxed.
Japanese people definitely enjoyed Susan's great performance on the NHK music gala.
For instance, one internet user in Japan says, "Susan's performance was the highest level and she could be the wind-up singer of the NHK music gala". Another user says, "she was the best singer in the music gala". There are also many people who say, "please come back to Japan again and do the music tour".
Some Japanese peole even compared Susan Boyle with other Japanese singers on the gala.
Previously, Akiko Wada, a Japan's established singer, criticized the NHK by making Susan Boyle its gala's highlight.
However, her criticism came back to her as a boomerang. Japanese people severely criticized Akiko Wada through the Internet (like Yahoo Japan News' comment section) by saying, "You are the last person who can critize the NHK and Susan", "You do not have the beautiful voice like Boyle", "You even should appreciate the NHK by letting you on the stage although you do not have the voice", etc.
Besides, almost all Japanese medias evaluate her performances on the NHK music gala very positively.
For example, the Daily Sports, the Japanese tabloid newspaper, said that Susan's beautiful voice swept the entire length of Japan.
The Nikkan Sports, another tabloid newspaper, said, “Susan Boyle fascinated the audiences with her perfectly accurate musical pitch and transparent voice. Her album selling already reached to 8 million around the world. It seems like Susan Boyle will break through as a star in Japan due to her performance on the nation’s biggest music gala in Japan. ”
The Sankei Newspaper, a conservative newspaper in Japan ,also described the applause that Susan got as "waterfall".
According to the Sports Houchi, another Japan’s famous tabloid, Susan visited Hikawa Shrine in Tokyo, which is famous for worshiping the God of an entertainment, right after she arrived in Japan on December 29th. However, she could not sleep well on 30th because she was too nervous after the rehearsal on the music gala. On the NYE, Ms. Boyle also stayed in a hotel all day to focus on her performance on its evening and she was very nervous before the gala.
After her performance, Susan seemed to be satisfied and she was smiling to the media all the time. Although she was even asked a weird question whether she liked the escort of a Japanese actor, Takuya Kimura, by a Japanese media after her performance, she gave the media great smile.
When I checked Japanese people’s comments on an Internet, most of them (maybe 9 out of 10 people) are very satisfied with Boyle’s beautiful voice on the NHK music gala, “Kohaku Utagassen”.
The NHK music gala has been criticized that the program is getting too much like a comedy variety show and not focusing on music anymore by the Japanese people.
These Japanese people now say that they feel Susan Boyle’s performance was amazing wakeup call and Susan’s voice complied with the theme of the NHK music gala, “the power of the song”. There are also comments that they want to see Susan Boyle in the next year’s NHK music gala.
According to the Japanese media, she now left Japan for going back to her home in Scotland. Susan left Japan by leaving a message that Japanese people always bowed her anywhere she met and she felt that she experienced "Japanese sense of respects toward others". She also said that she wanted to come back to Japan definitely with her big smile.
Her comment above also attracts a lot of Japanese people by knowing her great personality as well as her beautiful voice. They are saying on the internet that they are now eager for her possible concert tour in Japan.
As you can see, Susan Boyle literary conquered Japan.
