The NHK music gala, which Susan Boyle had been invited, got 40.8% as its rating on New Year's Eve

According to the Video Research, a Japan's dominant rating research company, the NHK music gala on New Year's Eve, "Kouhaku Utagassen", got 40.8% of viewers as average in Tokyo region. In Osaka region, rating was 40.3%.
The music gala was consisted of two parts. Susan Boyle appeared on the latter half part.
The rating of first half part was 37.1% in Tokyo region and 34.0% in Osaka region.
It's slightly declined compared to that of 2009, but it's within the margin of error and it was pretty good job that the NHK music gala hold more than 40% rating for two consecutive years.
The show itself has been criticized that it is getting less music festival and more comedic variety show by using Japanese pop idols who do not have enough voice ability.
It's also been criticized that there were so many old singers who do not make any hit recently and it is getting into a groove.
Therefore, there are many Japanese people who surprisingly think the NHK did pretty much good job on its rating.
However, I should also need to mention that the rating research in Japan has one big problem. The research is dominated by one single company and they only take 600 families as its sample. There is criticism that it does not reflect the real rating accurately.
This is only an average rating during 4 hours of the show and we still do not know the rating of an each individual artist yet.

It's slightly declined compared to that of 2009
日刊スポーツ（http://www.nikkansports.com/entertainment/news/f-et-tp0-20100102-581840.html）によれば、第一部では今年の視聴率は去年より上がったそうですよ。
昨年大みそかの夜に放送された「第６０回ＮＨＫ紅白歌合戦」の平均世帯視聴率が関東地区で、１部（午後７時１５分～８時５５分）は３７・１％、２部（同９時～１１時２３分）は４０・８％だったことが２日、ビデオリサーチの調べで分かった。前年と比べ１部は１・４ポイント上回った。２部は１・３ポイント下回ったが、２年連続で４０％台を記録した。

I have searched if there is any picture of Susan Boyle's visit to Japanese sightseeing places, but I have not found any.
All the pictures of her is either the one on the NHK state or the one at the airport. I think Japanese media did not follow her like paparazzi and Susan Boyle may have enjoyed her own time more.
Plus, she only did sightseeing on 29th and she stayed in a hotel on 30th and 31st in order to concentrate on her performance, so I think Japanese media could not take her private pictures. It might be good for her to be relaxed in Japan.
